St. Joseph’s Villa opened its doors on December 1st, 2003 to 128 new residents!
St. Joseph’s Villa provides an expanded definition of services for the Sudbury area and nurtures the body, mind
and spirit of all residents’ families, staff and visitors at various stages
of their life journeys.
Based
on the nature of their needs, residents admitted to St. Joseph’s
Villa receive varying degrees of care, assistance and
services aimed at maximizing their quality of life. Our philosophy
of care respects the individual needs of the resident while
encouraging independence in activities of daily living.
Programs
and Services at St. Joseph’s Villa
NURSING SERVICES
Through
our nursing services, the individual nursing and personal
care needs of our residents are met on a 24-hour basis by
our team of professional Registered Nurses, Registered Practical
Nurses and Personal Care Assistants.
The Villa offers a coordinated on site program for skin
and foot care services to meet the needs of individual residents.
On admission and on a quarterly basis thereafter, residents receive
skin and foot care assessments with qualified registered staff
providing basic and advanced foot care. Arrangements can be
made on an individual basis for specialized medical services
and other support services available in the community.
RECREATION
AND LEISURE SERVICES
Recognizing the value of engaging in meaningful activity,
our age-appropriate recreation and leisure activities consider
the abilities, interests, needs and former lifestyles of our
residents. Led by our life enrichment staff and
strongly supported by our volunteers, the recreation and leisure
programs contribute tremendously to
daily life at the Villa.
Activities include seasonal celebrations, leisure/hobby groups,
community outings and activity centres with computers.
SPIRITUAL
AND RELIGIOUS CARE
Supported by the Spiritual and Religious Care Team of St.
Joseph’s Health Centre, the Villa offers full time on-site
chaplaincy service and an organized program to respond
to the spiritual and religious interests and needs of the
residents.
SOCIAL WORK
While the care team at St. Joseph’s Villa embraces a holistic
and supportive approach to care, specialized psychosocial
support through the services of a social worker, is also
available to residents on an individual basis.
THERAPY
SERVICES
The therapy needs of residents are met through an organized
program supported by an occupational therapist and life enrichment staff. Arrangements can be made for individuals
requiring physiotherapy and speech therapy through the Manitoulin-Sudbury
Community Care Access Centre.
VOLUNTEER
SERVICES
The participants of our organized volunteer program enhance
the quality of all services offered to residents. See Volunteer Opportunities
for further information.
ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES
The Environmental Services department maintains the Villa in a clean and
sanitary condition, providing an optimal environment for residents. It provides
clean linen for the Villa, personal laundry services for the residents,
and maintenance of the grounds and facilities to ensure safe and pleasant surroundings.
DIETARY SERVICES
Food is prepared on site and staff ensures that therapeutic
adaptations and special diets are served as needed. Menu planning,
food preferences, and the overseeing
of therapeutic menus are provided by the Dietitian and Food Services
Manager. Cooks are graduates of Culinary programs
and all Food Services staff hold Food Handling certificates and Food Service Worker certificates.
STAFF DEVELOPMENT
Our Staff Development Coordinator organizes ongoing educational training
for our staff and volunteers. Educational resources are accessed from community
healthcare professionals, professional organizations as well as
inhouse expertise through multimedia formats.
