As
a provincially approved Long-Term Care home, St. Joseph’s
Villa’s rates are established annually by Ontario Ministry
of Health and Long-Term Care, not by St. Joseph’s Villa. Rates are the same for
all Long-Term Care homes in Ontario. They are based on
changes in the payment entitlements of Old Age Security (OAS),
the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS), and the Guaranteed
Annual Income Supplement (GAINS).
Basic Accommodation (Ministry Rate Reduction available
by application)
- Rooms for which basic rates apply accommodate one resident with an attached shared washroom.
Preferred Accommodation (Ministry Rate Reduction
is not available)
Semi-private rates are charged for our larger basic rooms occupied by one person with a shared washroom.
Rate reductions are available for couples in adjoining semi-private accommodations.
Private rates apply for rooms which accommodate one resident and have an attached private washroom.
The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care has set monthly accommodation rates effective July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009 as follows:
| Accommodation
Type |
|
Monthly* |
| Basic |
|
$1,578.02 |
| Semi Private |
|
$1,821.35 |
| Private |
|
$2,125.52 |
| Couples |
|
$1,699.77 |
*A daily rate is charged for a partial month.
The monthly rate is charged for a full month (regardless of
the number of days in a month).
Wherever possible we try to accommodate couples in adjoining rooms.
A resident with low income who chooses a basic accommodation may
apply for a special Ministry Rate Reduction
(note that there is no rate reduction available for semi-private
or private accommodation). To apply for the special reduction,
the following steps are taken:
- The resident provides St.Joseph’s Villa with his or her last "Notice of
Assessment" from the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency (formerly Revenue
Canada). This is the notice that a person receives from the federal
government in the mail after submitting an income tax return.
- St.Joseph’s Villa will conduct an income test to determine the
reduction the resident is entitled to receive, if any. The calculation
uses only the resident's income, not on the resident's assets
or the resident's family’s assets.
- St.Joseph’s Villa will use the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care Reduction Worksheet
to determine the level of subsidy to which the resident is entitled. This
could reduce the monthly payment to a minimum of $1,026.56.
- If the resident’s income is still not sufficient to support monthly accommodation rate
of $1,026.56, the resident may apply directly to the MOH for "Exceptional Circumstances"
consideration for further rate reductions. St. Joseph’s Villa staff will assist residents in preparing
these applications.
